The game was released in the United Kingdom on September 1, 2000, and on December 14 in North America. The game was generally not well received by fans of the previous two games because of stricter time limits and repetitive missions inserted between races.[citation needed] One of the most controversial aspects of Carmageddon TDR 2000 was that pedestrians could be killed by means of burning or graphic collisions; that could include dismemberment. Some versions of the game for other countries replaced the human pedestrians with zombies, actually only changing the color of the blood from red to green, but patches were circulated on the Internet that revert the game to its original state.
